Don't know on which planet the author is living, but on earth EVs aren't successfull at all, other than in China, there is no rapidly expanding EV market and even in China the growth is slowing down. I live in Germany, THE country of car manufacturing and almost nobody wants to drive EVs, even those who bought one want to switch back according to research. Moreover, cars in general are losing quality, other than a tablet and a steering wheel there is nothing in them.
Whether I have to pass around my phone or not is the smallest problem.
