Volkswagen's latest feature is a monthly bill for your car's horsepower

Volkswagen now asks owners of its ID.3 electric car to pay a monthly or one-time fee to unlock the vehicle's full horsepower, which is already built into the hardware.

Disgusting. It's not like I had any interest in owning a VW before this, but now I have a good reason to permanently avoid it. It's almost depressing to see practices like this.

I think it would be diificult for vw to go on justice if the owner hacks the system to get the full power which is registered in Insurance companies.
If Vw is loosing buyers, it is their own fault. When chines constructors will buy or build factories in EU. it will be the end for european carmakers.

"No change needed to insurance" actually means you are paying premium for the performance you don't have when you don't pay for the "unlock". This is wild... Wasn't haptic control not enough of a debacle for VW Group? An then they gonna do surprised picachu face when their sales slump from another controversy and beg EU to put more duties on Asian import cars because they can't compete.
