BMW claims your love for CarPlay and Android Auto is not real

German automaker BMW uses data from 10 million vehicles to argue that most drivers prefer its built-in navigation, challenging the popular belief that Apple CarPlay is essential for directions.

from 2021 bmw started adding both carplay and android auto from factory

Bmw maps so ,uch better it's integrated it shows in the dashboard too, it's online just like Google maps. If u owned one you would not be using the crappy auto or car play maps

The data plan is part of the subscription, u don't have to worry about it. But like bmw and high end cars they give you 10 years free

Anonymous, 2 hours agoEveryone I know uses their phone for navigation, not the car.Cuz they have crappy cars with craby navigation. My old car I used Google maps because I had to pay for using the maos.my new car comes with 10 years free , I don't even have android auto set up and don't want it. The car maps are better my phone connects to Bluetooth and gets music and calls that's all I need

Yes, when you think of the first hand buyers then yes, newly bought car will have recent maps and navigation is good enough.
Talk about when warranty period is over and you have to pay for all the updates. In 10 years you probably won't even be able to update it because they will say data is incompatible.
They spied on wrong people. The car value keeps high only because it has a good resale chance. And the resale value keeps high because secondhand buyers want features. They are much less likely to use original software.
The base model car may cost 30k eur (we call it a "bucket", because it usually has only few features), such car will cost 3k eur in 10 years. While if you buy fully loaded car for lets say 40k eur, it would still hold about 10k eur value

Sinnaoi, 7 hours agoI am one of those drivers Have an iX and prefer it's own navigation and infotainment by ... morewell , my friends with 10k CF moto chinese bikes have carplay/android auto directly built in, while those with 20k+ bmw bikes have to use quadlock phone mount to get waze and also risk breaking the phone's camera stabilization which sucks .
Without waze you wouldn't keep your driving license here for a year on a sport bike

Have an iX and prefer it's own navigation and infotainment by far. Spotify UI is better, Navigation takes into account battery status and manages charging. Live traffic status is just as good. Resolution and graphics are better with bmw maps. It doesn't drain phone battery, like android auto (my cell phone) or carplay (my wife's).
It doesn't show information about police controls, which is anyway forbidden in my country and thus, not shown in Google Maps either

even or motorcycles they force you to use their dumb system, guess what bmw, people want carplay/android auto on your sport bikes so they can use waze and see where police is hiding, nobody cares about your own navigation system, I paid 25k for a bmw s1000rr and have to use my phone with quadlock to get waze

that's because BMW is working with highly skewed data.

First, BMW used to charge extra for Carplay. I'm not sure if they still do, but obviously that means tons of their customers simply can't use carplay.

Second, they ONLY offered carplay, not both Carplay + Android auto. And Apple Maps sucks compared to Google Maps.

So no wonder that BMW customers preferred to use built-in maps instead of paying additional money for a crappy map system.
