Imagine the potential if Tesla put in the work to make sensor fusion viable, without relying solely on cameras. In my opinion, this will be their biggest hurdle and where their whole approach won't ever reach what they promise. It's appalling how such a forward thinking company chose to rely on such a limited system.

air , 19 Oct 2025What are some of the rules of thumb for a safe follow distance between vehicles? In Germany the thumb rule is half your speed in km/h as meters of distance to the car in front. This would work wonderfully, if other people would't cut you from the right fitting in the safe space you try to hold, rendering the whole usesell. I very much understand the need for this Mad Max mode, as an autonomous car is much faster to react than any human and should work really well to take the stress out of commuting on busy roads.

One thing would be If It was only the Tesla drivers, who should know It's not 100% safe, but other cars can end up in that traffic accident caused by that Tesla.

The problem is that other drivers are human on the road = can make mistakes and be less predictable. Not to mention the jerks or dangerous drivers. The risk of an accident is still high. Nice progress, though.
