BMW and Mercedes change course on self-driving technology

20 April 2026
BMW and Mercedes-Benz are pivoting away from expensive "eyes-off" driving systems to focus on practical, driver-supervised technology similar to Tesla's approach.

there is no point in level3 self driving in a 7-series or s-class. they are always driven by private drivers/bodyguards who take care of the car, transfer of family members, drive all the commutes and ensure security of the owner. owners are always on the rear seat.

it's laughable that you think Tesla will assign anything less than 100% of the blame on you if Tesla's "Fully Supervised Driving" crashes the car. You are 100% responsible for its traffic mistakes. Ergo, it's just another Level 2 system.

It's laughable that you guys are still trying to paint FSD as Level 2+. It is the only system in the market where you can enter a destination and never touch the wheel until the car parks itself and unlocks the doors. Keep crying about paperwork when FSD becomes the standard while legacy brands can't even drive on the highway without disengaging. :)
