BYD is in negotiations to produce electric cars at Volkswagen’s iconic Dresden factory as Chinese brands look to establish a "Made in Germany" image.

It is certainly true that it makes a lot of sense to "rent" out space you don't need. Still, letting BYD rent space in a very prestigious VW building might be seen as a take-over in the public opinion in Germany. It wouldn't surprise me if this results in a dent in the perception of the VW brand.
