This 3-minute charge solid-state tech could realize the true promise of EVs

21 May 2026
A new solid-state battery prototype developed in China can fully charge in three minutes and holds double the energy density of standard electric car batteries.

The publication itself is good news. Increased energy density will bring down weight and therefore increase the efficiency.

The article on the other hand suggests that current days EV's are not convenient and take forever to charge.
Filling up petrol actually takes longer than most people want to admit. Charging modern days EV's is already faster than filling up with petrol.

Anyway, each year there are numerous reports about the next battery breakthrough. Once they are on the road in a car we can see what it can do. Let's see how FAW's project to put a HongQi with Solid State Battery on the road will come along. Or the Solid State Deepal from ChangAn.
