I feel that initially we can have proper driverless Teslas right today, in such a way that the driver is placed elsewhere and controlling it using encrypted internet connection.
There should be a main camera above the car's rear end, a little higher and sticking out, something like a video game angle found by default in Need for Speed games.
The merits will be:-
A lot more efficiency, as one driver may operate many different cars in one day, and undertake more journeys per day.
Drivers will still get employment but be more efficient.
There will be 4 empty seats in the car as opposed to 3, with driver.
Provision for non-distracting navigation (on the screen itself).
Demerits:-
Night driving, will require a hyper kind of night vision camera.
You may not get all angles in a way you like without delays. Reflexes might suffer.
