Researchers from Tsinghua University and Tianmushan Lab have achieved a 602.5 Wh/kg in a lithium metal pouch cell. It’s a glimpse of a future where electric aircraft fly farther and performance cars ditch their battery overweight.

The higher energy density will result more violent self-destruction.
The current NCM battery is not safer than the previous generation, but they changed the shell structure to avoid thermal runaway with better cooling to keep the fire in more controlled enclosure.
