Huawei's Richard Yu: There's room for only 5 auto makers in China

14 October 2022
Once the market matures, most of the automakers will be phased out.

Yu of course is more likely to be right than I am, but I wonder if the CPC will allow that to happen? They may want more diversity and no industry dominating companies that eventually buy political control (see Boeing/Airbus as examples.)
Increasingly car makers are actually body stampers who add parts from a catalogue with tweaks, hence Skoda/Audi sharing many parts. It may be that there are only a few parts makers, but many companies turning out vehicles for different markets.

A car's brand where spare parts are expensive and custome... moreIf you ignore EVs made by GM, there are suddenly 90% less cases where EV battery caught fire, same goes for ICE BMW - if you ignore BMW there are 50% less cases of ICE cars starting an unwanted barbecue.

Tesla, BYD, Xipeng, Nio, and Polestar. There is no room for Huawei

Well Huawei, Xiaomi are first two. Rest should be other china makers.
From company like Apple never came anything good apart the robbery on a customer.

Where's Japan, USA & Europe were going backward.

Cars are not like cellphones.
A car's brand where spare parts are expensive and customer support is poor means low number of units sold. Cars are not something someone changes every 3 years, so I hope he's not thinking anyone is aiming to be "upgrading" their car every year like cellphones.

That said, EV will probably die either way or rather, co-exist with current gas based cars. Batteries are still not there in terms of charging times, or temperature tolerance. Not to mention their sensitivity to crashes and blowing themselves up (even if naysayers here say that happens rarely)

I thought BYD is top 3

Yeah, he most likely is not wrong, but EV market to mature might take a really long time.
Just take a look at ICE market, there are still a ton of mistakes and brands (even if they are surviving only as a part of concern).
