Toyota and Lexus are the latest brands to adopt Tesla's NACS connector in North America

Vlad, 20 October 2023

Over the past few weeks and months, many car brands have announced plans to adopt Tesla's NACS connector for the cars they will sell in North America in the future, and today we have Toyota and Lexus joining the bandwagon.

As usual in these situations, this means two things. First, new Toyota and Lexus EVs sold in North America will be fitted with the NACS port as standard, from 2025. However, unlike other makers that went all-in, Toyota says only "certain" EVs will get NACS from 2025, and mentions the "all-new, three-row, battery-electric Toyota SUV that will be assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky".

Second, existing Toyota and Lexus EV owners will get access to Tesla's far-reaching 12,000-strong Supercharger network in North America, also from 2025. This will happen through a CCS-to-NACS adapter, which Toyota will provide (though not necessarily for free).

Toyota says its customers have access to "an extensive charging network" in North America through the Toyota and Lexus apps, comprising of over 84,000 charging ports, including level 2 AC and DC fast chargers. With the addition of support for NACS, that number will balloon up even more, thanks to Tesla's Superchargers.
