Peugeot E-3008 officially debuts: Long range version comes with 98 KWh battery

If you've been paying attention to the automotive industry, you'll know that electric vehicles (EVs) are not merely the future – they're the present. And Peugeot, a veteran in the industry, not wanting to be outdone by the competition and fast-changing customer desires, just rolled out its latest and arguably most exciting offering in the EV segment yet: the E-3008.

The all-new E-3008 sports what Peugeot dubs as a "fastback SUV" design. Picture this: a sports car and an SUV decide to produce an offspring, and you get this fine specimen, sans the emissions. The vehicle isn't a behemoth, stretching to a manageable 178.74 inches in length, and 74.41 inches in width, and standing at 64.57 inches tall.

No discussion on Peugeot's design would be complete without mentioning the headlights. The iconic three-claw light signature returns, flanking a revamped emblem. If you want to upgrade to the futuristic Pixel LED technology, however, you'll need to set your sights on the E-3008 GT model. And as for that floating spoiler on the back? It’s more than just aesthetics; it's aerodynamics.

Stepping inside, you're greeted by Peugeot's Panoramic i-Cockpit, featuring a 21-inch floating panoramic screen. While one half displays vital stats like speed, the other half serves as a touch-screen interface for entertainment, navigation, and more. They haven’t just slapped a screen and called it a day; it's a reimagining of interior space. Embedded are i-Toggles - touch-sensitive buttons for functionalities you didn't know you wanted. The cockpit isn’t just a dashboard; it's a tech hub.

The E-3008 is anchored to Stellantis' new STLA Medium platform, promising a travel range of up to 435 miles on a single charge with the largest 98KWh battery. The charging time from 20% to 80% SoC is swift; imagine downing a coffee, and your car's ready to roll in just 30 minutes. As long as you can find a public charger with 160 kW on tap.

Under the hood, potential buyers can choose from three electric powertrains: 210 hp and 230 hp Long Range come with FWD, while the 320 hp Dual Motor sports 4WD.

The base and 4WD versions come with 73 KWh battery, while the Long Range is the only one to get the 98KWh pack. And here's a commitment from Peugeot: at least 70% charge capacity is guaranteed to remain after 8 years or 99,400 miles.

The seats are draped in leather-effect or Alcantara, and are endorsed by German doctors for their ergonomic design. For those opting for the GT model, expect to indulge in luxurious comforts, such as warming and massaging seats. The environmentalists among us will appreciate the in-built Air Quality System ensuring that even in a traffic jam, you're breathing pristine air.

Audiophiles can revel in the Focal Premium Hi-Fi System, complete with ten high-grade loudspeakers. And for those who live out of their cars, there’s ample storage - 17 distinct spaces, to be precise. The boot holds 18.4 ft³ of cargo.

As for the connectivity and tech prowess, it's on par with what you'd expect from a modern EV. Voice recognition that discerns between driver and passenger, semi-autonomous driving capabilities, and yes, enough USB-C ports to keep every gadget you own charged.

Peugeot's all-electric E-3008 is a formidable entrant in the EV market, brilliantly combining luxury with practicality. The 320 hp AWD version is vying for the crown of the fastest production Peugeot SUV but it is the long-range version with 435 miles on offer that will tempt plenty of buyers away from other EV manufacturers. All we need to know now, are the prices - the day Peugeot reveals the E-3008 pricing will either be a day to remember or one to quickly forget.

Woot woot another SUV. Because the world needs more of those, right? Nope nope nope, can't have a reasonably sized sedan that'll get you far more miles per kWh. Gotta have big ole pedestrian killers.

As much as I like the design of the Peugeot 308 interior and exterior, I hate this design.
