Polestar is expanding its Polestar 3 lineup with a new Long Range Single Motor variant, offering a more affordable entry point into their flagship electric SUV. The the new model is the cheapest in the lineup, starting at $88,650 in Europe, and promises an impressive range of up to 404 miles (WLTP). It maintains the same luxurious features, technology, and design as its dual-motor counterpart.

"With the Long Range Single Motor Polestar 3, we offer consumers a new entry point for our flagship electric SUV," said Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar. "The rear-wheel-drive configuration fits with our performance-focused driving dynamics that make the car stand out in the luxury SUV sector."

Despite being the entry-level model, the Long Range Single Motor Polestar 3 doesn't skimp on performance or features. It uses the same 111 kWh battery pack as the dual-motor version, allowing for rapid charging from 10% to 80% in just 30 minutes with a 250 kW DC fast charger.

Though it only has a single motor driving the rear axle, the Long Range Single Motor Polestar 3 still delivers a respectable 220 kW (299 horsepower) and 361 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.8 seconds. The cheaper model even retains the same sophisticated suspension system as the dual-motor models, ensuring a comfortable and controlled ride.

Polestar is also improving the customization process with the 2025 lineup. The automaker is allowing buyers to personalize their Polestar 3 with a range of options, including six exterior colors, five interior "rooms," and four alloy wheel choices, including a new 21-inch alloy wheel available as part of the new Pro Pack. For those seeking even greater safety and convenience, the Pilot Pack with LiDAR from Luminar is now available as an option on the Long Range Single Motor Polestar 3.

While initially available for order in Europe, Polestar plans to expand availability to North America and Australia later in 2024. With its combination of performance, range, luxury, and customization options, the Long Range Single Motor Polestar 3 has a chance to appeal to a slightly wider range of electric car enthusiasts, although even this cheapest version needs an owner with deeper pockets.
