Polestar 4 gains AI-powered live lane guidance in Google Maps

Today, Polestar has unveiled that it's the first car brand to integrate live lane guidance in Google Maps. This will be available in the Polestar 4's 10.2-inch driver display, as evidenced in the image below.

Basically, the software detects which lane your car is in by using Google's AI to analyze elements on the road like lane markings and road signs, which are captured by the car's forward-facing cameras.

Then, with that information, Google Maps will give you visual and audio reminders to help you change lanes in time. There's a new visualization that highlights all possible lanes for the chosen route, including which lane your car is currently in.

Clearly, this will be very useful on highways (so you don't miss your exit) and interchanges (so you pick the appropriate lane as quickly as possible without the risk of ending up going the wrong way).

This feature will be rolling out "in the coming months" and will be initially available for the Polestar 4 in the US and Sweden. It will reach more markets "and road types" in the future, Polestar's press release says, without actually mentioning which road types it's supporting from day one - we'd assume highways only, but that's just speculation on our part.
