Renault 4EVER Trophy is an EV ready for serious off-road adventures

Renault 4 reincarnation is a serious off-road electric car that is designed to race across the desert in the annual 4L Trophy humanitarian rally that takes place in Morocco. The rally was founded 25 years ago and there is only one requirement - participants need to drive a Renault 4.

As such, the Renault 4EVER Trophy is just a prototype, the production car won’t be coming with any of the off-road gear - but according to the company, what we see in silver paint, is the actual production-ready Renault 4. The car will be a compact crossover, it will be of course all-electric and we should see it in the showrooms some time in 2024.

The 4EVER Trophy is a brute of a car, with its huge off-road wheels and tires, spare wheel on the roof, sturdy bumpers and side protections with solid hook-up points - this is not a city car. The ground clearance looks to be enough to get the car over any terrain and across rivers.

The roof rack holds the spare tire and there are life-saving waffle-boards strapped to the rear door together with a shovel. The wheel travel is 20cm, the off-road tires wrap 19” rims and the underbody gets extra durable protection plates to keep the battery safe. The hood comes with a giant air duct that helps to keep the radiator cool and out of the way of any stones - this radiator keeps the battery at its optimal temperature regardless of the driving conditions.

The future Renault 4 SUV, just like the prototype, will be based on the CMF-BEV platform, which it will share with the upcoming Renault 5. The company compares the two cars to Renault Clio and Renault Captur - one will be a compact hatchback, the other one will be a medium-sized crossover.

Renault 4 will be built in France, at the ElectriCity manufacturing hub, alongside the Renault 5. Will we ever see the production version of the 4EVER Trophy? This is Renault we are talking about here, and honestly - everything is possible. The CEO mentioned, during today’s conference, that the mad-as-hell electric Renault 5 Turbo may go into production if there is enough interest.

With the Jeep unveiling its electric Avenger this morning, Renault may take it upon itself to compete in the small off-road capable SUV segment and the Renault 4 may come in a limited edition as the 4EVER Trophy - it just shows how flexible electric vehicle platforms are.
