Sony and Honda's joint EVs to be serviced by Honda dealers
Sony and Honda have announced the formation of a joint venture earlier this year, tasked with jointly developing EVs, where Sony will be responsible for the mobility platform and Honda for the manufacturing. This will result in a new company that will launch its first EVs in the US market in 2026.
Knowing all this, you may have wondered where these vehicles will be serviced, and the answer seems to be the obvious one. Speaking during a call discussing Honda's financial results, CFO Kohei Takeuchi said that while Sony and Honda are still working out the exact details of their collaboration, Honda's existing dealer network would be very well positioned to step in for the upcoming EVs' service needs.
This is good news for said Honda dealers in the US, who have recently grown concerned about having a place in the company's future.
Sales, on the other hand, may be online and direct to consumer, with Kohei noting that this would be a novel endeavor for the automaker. It's still unclear what types of cars we can expect from the joint venture, but the companies have previously stated that they're focusing on premium products, so don't dream of affordable Sony-Hondas anytime soon.
