Tesla finally brings the Robotaxi app to Android

Tesla has now finally launched the Robotaxi app on Android, following the release of the iOS version in September of last year. The Robotaxi app for Android is available in the Google Play Store.

As you'd expect, the app lets you request a ride on Tesla's fleet of "Robotaxis", wherever that service is available. Once you're inside one, you can use the app to adjust climate controls, seat positioning, and music playback, and you can also monitor your trip's progress, change the drop-off location, or tell the car to pull over. You can pay using Google Pay in the Android app.

The app is only available in the US since the Robotaxi service is currently only operating over there, specifically in Austin, Dallas, and Houston, all three locations in Texas. Note that in Dallas and Houston, the actual area covered by the service is quite small.

In Austin, there are about 40 Robotaxis currently in operation, but only 12 of those operate in a driverless mode. The rest have "human safety monitors" in the front seat.

There's also availability in the Bay Area of California, but since Tesla doesn't have an autonomous driving license over there, its fleet has drivers that supervise its FSD feature.
