Tesla forced to shut Gigafactory Shanghai due to Covid surge

Tesla has reportedly stopped production at its Gifactory in Shanghai due to the city's surge in COVID-19 cases. The move is part of a mandatory two-stage lockdown of the 26 million city by the government.

The Gigafactory will be closed for up to four days. This is the second time this month - the Gigafactory Shanghai was closed for two days earlier in March.

Shanghai is seeing a surge of COVID cases from mass testing in the last few days. The two-stage lockdown will see half of the city close until April 1, and the other half from April 1.

It's unclear how bad the temporary shutdown would affect Tesla's production, but its factory is the biggest EV manufacturing plant in the World. A few days could mean a few thousand car shipments being delayed.
