Tesla is downgrading the sound system for the base Model Y
Tesla has quetly updated the description of its base Model Y in the US and Canada. The cheapest version now comes with a downgrade in the sound system, including a significant reduction in the speakers.
If you order a Tesla Model Y RWD now you will be getting 7 speakers, 1 amp and no subwoofer. That's still a competent setup, but not quite as impressive as the 9 speakers paired with a subwoofer the vehicle previously had.
In fact, in the early days of its production the RWD Model Y shipped with an array of 13 speakers, one subwoofer and two amps. That sound setup is still available on the more premium Long range and Performance versions, so if sound matters to you, the upgrade just became more worthwhile.
Interestingly enough, the UK website still shows 13 speakers, so the change hasn't reached other markets as of now. It's unclear if Tesla plans to similarly downgrade its base model anywhere else or when.

6-7 speakers is OK for majority of people in an entry level package.10-11 speakers with subs can be optional for audiophiles.
