Tesla kills off its factory wrap service for the Cybertruck
One of the Cybertruck's key selling points is the bare stainless steel body that doesn't even have paint on top. Tesla has repeatedly marketed the vehicle as the one that doesn't require paint for protection, as no paint equals no scratches.
Initially, the company offered a factory wrap in two colors - satin black and satin white, but that has been listed as unavailble since January. Now, the option is removed from the configurator, confirming it's not going to make a comeback.
Perhaps customers didn't want to pay an additional $6,000 for a wrap, or there was a supply chain issue with the raw materials. There's also the possibility of poor Cybertruck sales making the service unprofitable, given how fast Tesla cleared out the waiting list. The available data suggests merely 2.5% of those that pre-reserved Cybertrucks actually bought them.
