Refreshed Tesla Model 3 Performance approved for sale in China

Tesla is set to introduce its latest Model 3 Performance to the Chinese EV market. The American automaker recently filed the necessary paperwork with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and plans to release the model in the third quarter of this year, pending the statutory public feedback.

The updated Model 3 Performance boasts dual electric motors, with the front motor delivering 137 kW and the rear motor a staggering 265 kW. This power translates to an exhilarating top speed of 162 mph and a lightning-fast acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in a mere 3.1 seconds.

The ternary lithium-ion battery, supplied by LG Energy Solution, promises a commendable CLTC range of 387 miles on a single charge. The WLTP range stands at 328 miles, and the EPA rating comes in at 296 miles - the differences are due to different testing methods, with the EPA range arguably being the most realistic one.

As for the dimensions, the Model 3 Performance measures 186 inches in length, 72.8 inches in width, and 56.3 inches in height. These are slightly different dimensions from the model available in Europe and soon to go on sale in the US. The wheelbase, the distance between the front and rear axles, is identical with the European model at 113.2 inches. The curb weight of this high-performance EV is 4,081 lb.

The Model 3 Performance isn't just about power and performance. It's also about exclusivity. Starting at RMB 335,900 (approximately $46,500), this variant is a significant step up from the entry-level Model 3, priced at RMB 231,900 (approximately $32,000). This substantial price difference reflects the superior performance and advanced technology that the Performance variant brings to the market.
