Tesla Model S, Nio ET7, Hyundai Ioniq 6, Nissan Ariya, Toyota bZ4X all receive 5 stars in Euro NCAP testing

Today Euro NCAP released its latest report highlighting the results from its newest batch of tests, and it's all good news for EVs all-round. Heavy hitters like the Tesla Model S, but also rather unknown models like the Wey Coffee 02 got the maximum five stars in the testing.

The Model S and the Nio ET7 also got top marks in the Green NCAP rating last week, and they both share maximum ratings in the Safety Assist category in Euro NCAP testing.

The twin Subaru Solterra and Toyota bZ4X got five stars too, as did the Nissan Ariya and the Hyundai Ioniq 6, which scored "a commendable 97% in Adult Protection". The Smart #1 didn't disappoint either, earning five stars of its own.

Michiel van Ratingen, Euro NCAP’s Secretary General, said:

Manufacturers are keen to achieve good scores in this year’s tests as next year protocols become more stringent and provide increased challenges for vehicle development. In 2023, in line with its Vision 2030, Euro NCAP will be focusing on a range of new aspects. For example, we are putting in place autonomous emergency braking (AEB) protocols for motorcycles as well as new scenarios in passive safety for pedestrians and cyclists, extending the area where these two vulnerable users might interact with a vehicle. This is necessary progress in safety for other road users, and we are collaborating closely with industry to ensure we meet Vision Zero objectives and that the demands of the protocols are met.

In order to "encourage safety developments and upgrades", the organization allows car makers to have the same car re-tested or re-assessed to a new rating "following meaningful safety improvements", which is why you may see the same car in multiple test result reports in any given period of time.

All the videos from all the tests are available on Euro NCAP's official YouTube channel.
