The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX made the 1000km journey on a single charge

Mercedes' Vision EQXX went beyond the PR materials - the concept actually made a journey of over 1,000km on a single charge. The car made its start at 7:00 a.m. from Sindelfingen, Germany, and arrived at 7:02 p.m. at Cassis, France on the same day - traveling exactly 1,008km (626 miles) in 12 hours and 2 minutes (11:32 hours of movement).

The average speed was 87.4km/h (54mph), while the maximum speed on the motorway was 140km/h (87mph). The average consumption was an astounding 8.7kWh per 100km. The Vision EQXX had about 15% charge left or around 140km (87 miles) of range left - plenty to get to a charger.

Mercedes documented the journey on its website and shared both photos and a video of it.

This wasn't some range test produced on a dyno in a lab - the Vision EQXX ran on public roads and in regular traffic.

The result was made possible thanks to a combination of factors. The EQXX has a big 100kWh battery, a benchmark aerodynamic shape with a drag coefficient of just 0.17, a very low rolling resistance of the tires, very light magnesium wheels, high-end cooling through an embedded cooling plate in the underbody, an ultra-thin solar panel in the roof of the Vision EQXX, which adds up to 25km of additional range and Merdeces' drivetrain, which provides an efficiency of 95% from the battery to wheels.
