The new 2023 BYD Dolphin starts at $16,700

The BYD Dolphin is a small electric hatchback aimed at tech-savvy young people. It was recently released in three models, priced from $16,700 to $19,600. The Dolphin is powered by BYD LFP Blade batteries and built on BYD's e-platform version 3.0.

The BYD Dolphin was the first vehicle to showcase the "Marine Aesthetics" design language, which features fluid lines with sharp edges. This design language was inspired by the natural world and was created by Wolfgang Egger, the main designer at BYD.

The 2023 BYD Dolphin is available in a range of single-color options, including Pupu Pink, Beibei Grey, Cheese Yellow, Surfing Blue, Altantis Grey, Taro Purple, and Black. There are also three dual-color options available.

The name "Pupu Pink" appears to be inspired by a Hawaiian and American-Chinese cuisine called Pupu, and the color is described as resembling the setting sun on a tropical beach. The exterior of the 2023 BYD Dolphin has not been modified from the previous model.

In November 2022, BYD reported that sales of the BYD Dolphin increased by 195.8% year over year, reaching a total of 26,029 units sold. This significant increase in sales can potentially be attributed to a variety of factors, such as improved marketing and advertising efforts, positive word-of-mouth among customers, the release of new models or updates to the vehicle, and overall demand for electric vehicles in the market.

The BYD Dolphin has a width of 1,770 millimeters, a height of 1,570 millimeters, and a length of 4,070 millimeters. It also has a wheelbase of 2700 millimeters. Customers can choose between wheels with a 16 or 17-inch diameter.

The interior of the BYD Dolphin features a 12.8-inch floating central control screen, a full 5-inch LCD instrument panel, and a 12.8-inch flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel. There are also cup holders on either side of the center console.There are also two cup holders located in the back seat armrest.

The 2023 BYD Dolphin offers several upgraded features, including a real-time tire pressure monitoring system, front seat heating, a 4-way electronically adjustable passenger seat, a 6-way electronically adjustable driver seat, a rear center armrest with a cup holder, a front parking radar, electric exterior mirrors, and a seatbelt warning light. It also includes a new comfort mode in addition to the three existing driving modes of energy economy, snow, and sports.

The standard front permanent magnet synchronous motor on the 2023 BYD Dolphin is available in two output options: 70 kW/180 Nm and 130 kW/290 Nm. These options result in a pure electric cruising range of 420 km and 401 km, respectively, and acceleration times from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour of 10.9 seconds and 7.5 seconds, respectively. The motor is paired with a 44.9 kWh BYD LFP Blade battery pack that can be rapidly charged at 60 kW.
