The UK pledges to build 300,000 charging stations across the country by 2030
As part of the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Strategy, the UK government plans to build 300,000 charging stations across the country by 2030. That's about five times more EV charging stations than there are gas pumps right now and it's about ten times more than the current EV chargers.
The whole project will cost a whopping £1.6bn. About £500 million of those would be state-owned and competitively priced charging points and most of those will help build more EV hubs and on-street chargers in urban areas.
There's currently a Rapid Charging Fund that should build 6,000 new fast chargers by 2035 and in the meantime, the government will look into the hurdles that keep private investors from building more charging stations.
