Two frustrating Android Auto bugs are now fixed

Google has fixed two very frustrating bugs in Android Auto. First, with the latest update, Android Auto 17.4, a connection bug that caused the connection to drop or freeze every few minutes on some phones and car head units has now been squashed, according to a member of the Android Auto team.

This issue affected both wired and wireless Android Auto connections. It appeared in Android Auto version 17.1 and did not get fixed in 17.2 or 17.3. It consistently appeared after about three minutes of use on an aftermarket head unit, and was reported on multiple Pixel and Samsung devices.

To take advantage of the new fix, make sure you have the latest version of Android Auto from the Play Store, but do keep in mind that Google's software rollouts are notoriously slow, so it might be a while before it reaches everyone.

Google has also fixed a different bug that affects connecting Pixel 10 phones to Skoda, Volkswagen, and Seat cars. Google says the head unit was the root cause of this one, but that unfortunately means you need to contact your car's local dealership to get a software update for your car, which will fix the issue.
