VW's MEB platform will get more range and faster charging

VW's MEB EV platform is due to get some enhancements soon, according to a presentation by Dr. Silke Bagschik, the company's head of sales and marketing for the ID. family. The MEB platform is what the ID.3, ID.4, ID.5, and ID. Buzz all use. Future cars based on the platform will get range up to 700 km (435 miles), as well as support for charging at more than 200 kW. The range number is most likely calculated using the WLTP test cycle.

Furthermore, the best performing all-wheel drive dual-motor models will have 0-100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) acceleration of 5.5 seconds. So that's an interesting future for VW right there.

The company has been working on the MEB platform since 2015, realizing back then that it needed to invest in a new EV platform to be built from the ground up, instead of adapting existing platforms intended for ICE vehicles. And it looks like the development of the MEB platform hasn't stopped, with VW working on improving it in the future.

Right now there are no details about when these improvements will make it to shipping vehicles, but we'll naturally keep you posted on any developments.
