Xiaomi sprinkles gold dust onto its new YU7 electric SUV - literally
Xiaomi’s marketing machine just kicked into a higher gear. With the official launch of the YU7 just days away, the company is sharing more info about the upcoming SUV. And some of those details are seriously interesting - like the gold-infused new paint finish.
Xiaomi isn’t new to putting gold on its electric cars - the company has done it with the SU7 Ultra. The car got a unique carbon fiber badge with gold inlays on the front. The Ultra owners quickly realized that as beautiful as this decoration was, they weren’t the only ones enjoying the golden badge, with many of them reported stolen.
Well, it seems Xiaomi has learned its lesson and decided that the next time it infuses its car with gold, there will be no chance for anyone to steal it. Not unless they take the whole car.

This time around, it is the YU7 that is getting the gold treatment. The new SUV is getting a paint finish called Dawn Pink and it is a multilayer job with a pink base that is apparently then infused with gold particles, before the final clear coat is applied. The photos we have probably don’t do the color real justice, but they still look awesome.
The inspiration for the Dawn Pink comes apparently from appreciation of vitality, from “the golden mountain at dawn.” It is one of the nicest colors we have seen applied to a high-volume production vehicle, and if Xiaomi nails the finish, the YU7 in this color will be one good-looking electric SUV.
At the same time the company was teasing the new color it also revealed more details about the vehicle itself. We have confirmation that the RWD model will have 519 miles of range on a single charge. Let’s not forget this is the notoriously optimistic CLTC rating, and in real life, this figure will drop to probably just over 373 miles - which is still great for an electric SUV this size.
Speaking of sizes - the YU7 is just one millimeter shy of 197 inches, making it larger than the BMW iX or Audi Q8 e-tron. This is not a medium-sized SUV - this is a full-size, five-seat (rear seats are reclining) family hauler with plenty of space for kids, luggage, and the dog.
