2024 Chevy Equinox EV revealed in leaked images

In an unexpected turn of events, the upcoming 2024 Chevy Equinox EV stepped into the limelight ahead of its official reveal, thanks to a handful of images that made their way out of China. While the auto world always appreciates a good surprise, this wasn’t on the docket for most industry insiders.

GM isn’t holding back on its transition to electric. With the Equinox EV, the company is reinforcing its mantra, "EVs for everyone". Given Equinox's status as the brand’s second-highest-selling nameplate, it's clear that GM is placing its bets strategically. The Equinox EV will soon be zooming alongside its other electric siblings, like the Silverado EV and Blazer EV.

"Affordable" seems to be the buzzword here. Priced tentatively around a modest $30,000, GM is aiming to make the Equinox EV one of the most wallet-friendly options in the EV market. The big question remains: Can it deliver on the performance and quality at that price point? Scott Bell, Chevrolet's vice president, is certainly optimistic, describing the Equinox as an “EV for everyone” – spacious, tech-packed, and able to cover a GM-estimated 300 miles without needing a recharge.

While production is slated for later this year, some eager beavers have spotted the initial models exiting GM’s Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico earlier in June. Thanks to the recent leak, we now have a clearer picture – literally – of how the compact SUV will appear when it graces showrooms.

Revealed by the MIIT, the Equinox EV RS, which is Chevy's zippier, high-performance trim, closely mirrors the design aesthetics we've seen in the US. As for the size, the Equinox EV stretches to 190.7 inches in length, flaunts a width of 75.3 inches, and stands tall at 64.7 inches. This makes it slightly roomier than its gasoline counterpart by approximately 7 inches in length and 2 inches in width.

The Equinox RS trim boasts a dual-motor powertrain dishing out a combined 283 hp. The energy juice comes from a ternary lithium-ion battery, a product of the SAIC-GM collaboration. Unfortunately, the MIIT listing did not reveal any more details of the battery pack.

While the Equinox EV is gearing up for its official debut in China, American EV enthusiasts won't have to wait too long. The U.S. launch is anticipated this fall. However, a small hiccup has arisen. With GM sidelining the base trim for the Blazer EV, concerns are mounting. A growing petition is urging the auto giant to honor its commitment to affordability. It's clear that GM's “EVs for everyone” promise is being put to the test with enthusiasts and potential buyers demanding the Equinox EV maintains its appealing price tag of around $30,000.

It's just another EV SUV added to a pile ... seriously, who cares.

I'm curious about the Equinox EV. It looks decent and practical, but nothing too special. I also wonder how it will be priced and marketed in different regions. I hope to see more details about it soon.
