Apple introduces new CarPlay features with iOS 27, video apps to be allowed

Ro, 09 June 2026

During the annual WWDC, Apple introduced iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27, and as usual, the focus was on the developer side of things. Still, Apple walked us through some of the new features that await, including the brand-new AI-powered Siri.

The keynote didn't leave out CarPlay, though. Apple introduced a couple of new features, including audio scrubbing within CarPlay's Now Playing interface, better GPS accuracy and navigation, a mini-player for audio within apps and general stability improvements. However, the most notable upgrade is video apps.

Apple introduces new CarPlay features coming with iOS 27, video apps to be allowed

Yes, Apple is finally allowing developers to create CarPlay apps that can stream videos and also allow users to stream videos directly from their iPhones using AirPlay. Of course, video playback is allowed only when the vehicle is stationary.

Siri AI will also be available directly on CarPlay when paired with an iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max or newer.

All new features will come to iPhones running iOS 27, which is already available through the developer beta program. A public beta is expected to open in July before reaching the "stable" stage for all users in September alongside the new iPhone 18 series.
