BYD continues its European expansion with the launch of the Atto 2, a compact electric SUV. This new model, known as the Yuan Up in China, represents BYD's ninth offering in the European market. The Atto 2 has a good chance to capture a decent chunk of the competitive B-segment SUV market, offering a lot of modern technology, practicality, and an attractive price point.
The Atto 2 uses BYD's signature Blade Battery with 45.12 kWh capacity. This battery is integrated into the vehicle's structure, contributing to both safety and overall efficiency. The Atto 2 offers a WLTP combined range of 194 miles and a city range of 288 miles.
Fast charging is arguably the one area where the Atto 2 is lacking the most. It supports up to 65 kW DC fast-charging and according to BYD it takes 37 minutes to top up the battery from 10% to 80% SoC. A full charge at home will take about 5.5 hours thanks to the onboard 11 kW charger.

The Atto 2 has a front-mounted electric motor generating 130 kW (174 hp) of power and 214 lb-ft of torque. This allows the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds. The vehicle's dimensions are well-suited for urban environments, measuring 169.7 inches in length, 72 inches in width, and 65.9 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 103.1 inches.
The European prices are starting from $35,500 and the Atto 2 will come in two trims - Active and Boost - with the latter adding 360° camera, front parking sensors, electric mirrors, heated steering wheel and a bigger 12.8" display to the very long list of standard equipment.

With nine models now available, including eight BEVs and one plug-in hybrid, BYD is establishing a significant presence in the European EV landscape. The Atto 2 enters a crowded market, competing with established players like the Peugeot e-2008, Citroen e-C3, Opel Mokka-e, Fiat 600e, Kia Niro EV, and the upcoming Renault R4.
BYD's European lineup now includes the Atto 2, Sealion 7, Atto 3, Dolphin, Han, Seal, Seal U, Tang, and the Seal U DM-i (PHEV). The company has rebranded its models for the European market, with the Seal U corresponding to the Song Plus EV, the Seal U DM-i to the Song Plus DM-i, and the Sealion 7 to the Sealion 07.
