BYD Seal is coming to Europe with Dolphin to follow
BYD is expanding its European portfolio, the company has only just announced it is bringing three electric cars to the Old Continent and now it is adding the Seal to its lineup. The company claims it has received an overwhelmingly positive response from customers and it is planning to add the Dolphin to the portfolio as well.
BYD wants to be a global company and finally, after conquering its domestic market, it has a chance to spread its wings. Europe and Japan are its first large markets and with first deliveries already underway, the response from customers seems to be positive enough for the company to consider adding even more models to its offer.
First three models - Han, Tang and Atto 3 - went down as a success thanks to their attractive design, good equipment levels and decent pricing. BYD unveiled the Seal at the Paris Motor Show and to the surprise of the crowds, it announced the car will go on sale in Europe.
The Seal is an electric sedan that debuted in China earlier this year. It is squarely aimed at Tesla Model 3 customers and in China it sells like hot cakes. The car features cell-to-body battery technology in a first for BYD. It is essentially a structural battery with the cells fully integrated into the body of the car. The Seal brings as well the new e-platform 3.0 which it shares with the Atto 3.
BYD's Head of sales Pere Brugal confirmed the company is considering bringing the Dolphin to Europe as well. BYD recognizes the popularity of small hatchbacks across the continent and it seems a natural step to expand BYD's portfolio. The Dolphin is the third EV to share BYD's e-platform 3.0.
Sales of BYD electric cars have begun already in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium. Germany and France are next as well as the UK. Once the brand is present in all of those markets, which it hopes to happen before the end of this year, the company will expand to Spain and Italy at the beginning of the next year.
