BYD's March sales are second highest in history, showing 147% growth
A new month has started, and so BYD has come out with its sales numbers for last month - March, that is. They are impressive, to say the least. BYD says it sold a total of 302,459 "new energy vehicles" or NEVs (which means battery electric EVs but also hybrids, keep in mind), of which 301,631 were passenger vehicles.
At this point, its total sales of NEVs have surpassed 7 million since it was founded. The March number is BYD's second highest in history, only bested by what it managed last December. With February being the month of the Chinese New Year when a lot of the country is on holiday for a prolonged period of time, it's no surprise that sales have only picked back up last month.
BYD goes on to specify that its sales growth this March compared to March 2023 was a whopping 147.8%, which probably speaks the most about the overall trend here, since we're comparing March to March, not December or any other month that may have different sales patterns in general.
Brand-wise, BYD sold 10,279 Denza cars in March, 1,090 YangWang units, and 3,550 Fangchengbao units. Total exports stood at 38,434 vehicles, which means 264,025 vehicles were sold inside China last month.
BYD keeps on growing and solidifying its position as one of Tesla's main global competitors. We're intrigued to see how far it can still go.
