Cupra UrbanRebel is coming to the market as Cupra Raval

The first from the trio of the smallest electric cars from VW Group is coming in 2025, and it’ll be this funky-looking city crossover. If it looks familiar - it’s because it is. Cupra, the Spanish part of VW Group, unveiled the UrbanRebel prototype last year. Back then, it was suspiciously production-ready, and our suspicions were confirmed - Cupra just announced that UrbanRebel is coming in 2025 with one change.

It will be introduced under a new name - Cupra Raval. During the Automobile Barcelona Show, the company confirmed this sporty, city crossover will be coming to the market in 2025, and it will be manufactured at the Martorell plant in Spain. The car takes its name from the historic El Raval area of Barcelona - just like its bigger sibling Cupra Born.

Although the Raval may look like a cute kitten, despite its minute footprint, this is a real city tiger. The 4.03-meter 5-door crossover will be powered by the VW’s 222 hp (166 kW) electric motor, which means a rocketship-like experience every time the lights turn green. The 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) sprint takes 6.9 seconds which is far more than sufficient for city driving.

Built on the MBE Small platform, the Raval will come with possibly two battery sizes, but Cupra is not sharing the details of their capacity yet. The giveaway here is the expected range of 440 km (WLTP) for the “range version” - that means a smaller battery is in the works. All that points to the battery, and the powertrain, being shared with the VW ID. 2all - not a big surprise since the two are technical twins.

Cupra Raval will be another aggressive model from the Spanish outlet. After the recent debut of the Tavascan with its glorious interior, we expect to see the same approach for the little fella. It turns out the UrbanRebel was more than just a preview. Its exterior, together with the futuristic interior, is making way to the production version with just minimal changes.

Cupra is on a roll, the company is spearheading the revival of Seat, which recorded its best quarterly performance ever with a record profit of €144 million with a turnover going up by 48% compared to the same period last year. Although Cupra Tavascan received a very positive welcome from the public, it is Raval that will be the cheapest EV in the portfolio and will be tasked with becoming a people’s car. With these looks and this performance, it won’t be a problem.
