First BMW Neue Klasse units roll off the line in Debrecen
BMW has reached a significant milestone as the first near-production fully-electric models for the Neue Klasse have rolled off the production line at the BMW Group Plant Debrecen in Hungary. It's a critical step towards the official start of series production, scheduled to kick off late in 2025.
The Debrecen plant is now bustling with activity as production of test vehicles ramps up. The first units are closely mirroring the final production versions. They allow engineers and technicians to fine-tune every aspect of the manufacturing process. Milan Nedeljković, BMW AG Board Member responsible for production, stated that the production of these test vehicles is crucial for optimizing logistics and production processes under real-world conditions.
The journey of a Neue Klasse vehicle begins with the delivery of materials and parts to the Debrecen plant. Every component goes through rigorous tests as the vehicles move through many stages of production. The focus is on assembly and on validating the production systems and their digital connectivity. In the end, it all ensures a seamless and efficient manufacturing process.
This meticulous approach allows BMW to identify any potential for optimization early on. The team in Debrecen will analyze data from the test runs in the coming months, and refine the processes further. This approach will help the plant operate at peak efficiency, once the series production starts.
As the Debrecen plant gears up for full-scale production, new staff members are undergoing intensive training programs. These programs help them get used to the new machinery and foster cooperation across all factory departments.
