Ford Mustang Mach-E gets higher towing capacity, faster charging in Europe

Ivan, 04 May 2022

While the recent buzz around Ford was all F-150 Lightning-related, the Mustang Mach-E has been a quiet success for the automaker in Europe. Now selling for over a year on the Old Continent, the Mustang Mach-E is bringing buyers from competitors - Ford says that 88% of Mach-E buyers are coming from other brands.

Now all Mustang Mach-E owners in Europe are treated to a huge over-the-air update to their cars. It brings higher towing capabilities, improved charging, and one-pedal driving.

With the update, all extended range models of the Ford Mustang Mach-E are now rated for a braked towing capacity of 1,000kg (2200 lbs). Ford says that will cover a typical small or average-sized fiberglass boat.

The other update is to DC charging - the Mach-E's charging time between 80% and 90% has been reduced to just 15 minutes, down from 52 minutes. At-home wall-box charging hasn't been affected.

Finally, Ford has recalibrated the one-pedal driving for smoother performance at lower speeds.

All of these features are software-based and will make it to existing Ford Mustang Mach-E owners in Europe. However, at the time of writing, Ford hasn't increased the towing rating for the Mach-E in the US.
