Here's our first look at the Polestar 3, the company's first SUV

This is our first look at the Polestar 3, the carmaker's first SUV. The snap comes directly from Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath, who shared a quick teaser video of the car yesterday.

The Polestar 3 will debut in October, and Ingenlath shares that it will be available for pre-order on its unveiling day. Production will start in early 2023, in Volvo's South Carolina plant in the US, and in China.

It's all part of Polestar's expansion strategy. The brand aims to reach at least 30 new markets and grow sales from 29,000 in 2021 to 290,000 by the end of 2025. That ties nicely with its model plans - the Polestar 3 is coming in 2022, the Polestar 4 couple in 2023, and the Polestar 5 fastback in 2024.

Back to the Polestar 3. The Volvo subsidiary's first electric SUV will have a dual-motor powertrain and a large battery, enabling a WLTP range of 600km (372 miles).

The Polestar 3 is expected to share its platform with the upcoming Volvo XC90, so expect a large, luxury SUV. The Polestar will adopt its own line of powertrains from the Volvo, which will also have an all-electric version.
