Honda launches Ye GT, Ye P7 and Ye S7 to target China's booming market

Honda is moving to get a piece of the exploding Chinese electric vehicle market. The company unveiled "Ye," a new EV lineup, tailored to the Chinese consumers. Ye joins Honda's existing Chinese EV brands, e:N and Lingxi, hoping to boost its prospects in the world's largest EV arena.

The launch event saw the first three Ye models. The sleek Ye GT promises sporty thrills with a planned mass production start in 2025. Meanwhile, the Ye P7, a product of the GAC Honda partnership, and the Ye S7, crafted by Dongfeng Honda, are poised to enter the Chinese market before the end of this year.

Ye vehicles use the new dedicated EV platform e:N Architecture W. Honda has ambitious plans for this new brand, with six Ye models slated to hit the streets by 2027. The automaker's target is complete electrification of its Chinese offerings by 2035.

Honda and other Japanese automakers face declining market share as the Chinese market quickly move towards EVs. Chinese domestic brands' and EV newcomers' rapid rise leave established players battling for relevance.

Honda's decision to diversify its Chinese EV strategy with the Ye brand signifies its recognition of unique consumer preferences in the region. We'll be monitoring how it develops.
