Hyundai Ioniq 6 N transforms a sleek sedan into a 641 hp bruiser
Hyundai is injecting a serious dose of adrenaline into the electric car market with its latest creation, the Ioniq 6 N. At a time when some analysts point to a slowdown in the growth of EV sales, Hyundai's high-performance N division has transformed its streamlined Ioniq 6 sedan into a powerful machine designed for the driving enthusiast.
This new model follows the acclaimed Ioniq 5 N, proving the brand is serious about making electric cars that are anything but boring. At the heart of this four-door powerhouse are two electric motors that deliver a combined 601 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque.
When you need a little extra shove, a feature called N Grin Boost unleashes the car's full potential for 10-second intervals. This pushes the output to an impressive 641 horsepower (650 PS) and 568 lb-ft of torque. Paired with N Launch Control, the Ioniq 6 N rockets from a standstill to 62 mph in 3.2 seconds, continuing on to a top speed of 160 mph.
But straight-line speed is only part of the story. Hyundai's engineers have given the Ioniq 6 N a thorough chassis overhaul to ensure it can handle the immense power, with the suspension geometry redesigned for superior control and feedback. The new, stroke-sensing and electronically controlled dampers use sensors to constantly adjust stiffness based on road conditions and driving style.
To help drivers manage the power, systems like N Drift Optimizer and N Torque Distribution are included, allowing for precise control and, for the more adventurous, spectacular slides. Bringing the EV to a halt are powerful brakes with four-piston calipers up front clamping down on 15.7 inches discs and single-piston calipers in the rear with 14.2 inches discs.
Visually, the Ioniq 6 N distinguishes itself from the standard model with a more aggressive stance. Wider fenders have been fitted to house the large, 20-inch wheels, which are wrapped in sticky Pirelli P-Zero 5 tires (275/35R20) developed specifically for this car.
The most noticeable addition is a large, swan-neck rear wing that is not just for show - it provides enough downforce to keep the car stable at high speeds. These exterior changes are supposed to send a clear message to anyone looking at the new Ioniq 6 N - this is no ordinary electric sedan, but a purpose-built performance vehicle.
Hyundai has also worked to make the driving experience more engaging for drivers who miss the sounds and sensations of a traditional gasoline car. The Ioniq 6 N gets an upgraded N e-Shift system that simulates the feel of a dual-clutch transmission, creating a more interactive experience.
This is paired with N Active Sound+, which offers three distinct auditory profiles. "Ignition" mimics the sound of a motorsport engine, "Evolution" provides a unique EV sound with a nod to the past, and "Lightspeed" delivers futuristic, sci-fi-inspired tones. An N Ambient Shift Light system adds to the experience by visually syncing interior lighting with the simulated gear shifts.
When it comes to practicality, the Ioniq 6 N is equipped with an 84.0 kWh battery. Based on European WLTP testing standards, Hyundai estimates a driving range of up to 291 miles on a single charge. The official range figure from the EPA will likely be lower, as the mechanically similar Ioniq 5 N is rated for 221 miles.
Buyers will have a choice of several colors, including Performance Blue Pearl, Abyss Black Pearl, and Gravity Gold Matte. For even more personalization, Hyundai will offer a catalog of N performance parts. The official pricing has not been announced, but since the 2025 Ioniq 5 N starts at £49,400 in the US, the Ioniq 6 N could potentially start in the low £44,000 range.
