Images of the refreshed Nio ES8 based on the NT 2.0 platform leaked

Only a few days ago Nio held its yearly Media Day and the company talked about bringing its entire EV fleet onto the latest NT 2.0 EV platform. First car to make that move is the flagship ES8 and thanks to the MIIT regulatory body in China we have a full set of photos and details about the upcoming electric SUV.

The refreshed Nio ES8 will officially launch on December 24 during the yearly Nio Day and its details have been included on the list of vehicles approved for sale in China by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. As is the case with all the MIIT approved vehicles, the public can submit its comments and can challenge MIIT’s approval decision - although that never happened.

The new 2023 Nio ES8 is a larger EV than the outgoing model. The overall length grew to 5,099 mm and the wheelbase is 3,070 mm - extra 60 mm of legroom will make it even more spacious than before. The new version is slightly wider by 3 cm and it sits lower to the ground by just 6mm.

The front of the car is much smoother now and has been brought inline with the rest of the vehicles based on NT 2.0 platform, there is a clear family resemblance now with the narrow DRL and smaller headlight assembly integrated into the bumper. Blindspot cameras are now fitted to the front quarter panels rather than into the side mirrors.

LiDAR and ADAS cameras proudly sit on top of the roof without protruding too much. Gone is the sideline that was accentuating the rear arch - now the window line is just straight making the side of the car looking cleaner. The roofline appears to be less swooping as well which will be a welcome news for third row passengers.

The rear of the new ES8 has been ofcourse updated as well and now it features the full width LED light strip that gently wraps around the sides of the car. Although the current model is available in the 7-seat option, the new version appears to only have 6 seats - a clear nod to the luxury market.

There are two electric motors - front with 180 kW and rear with 300 kW output for a total of 480 kW or 644 hp which is precisely 100 hp more than the outgoing model had. There are two battery manufacturers listed - CATL and CALB. The 150 kW semi-solid-state battery from WeLion New Energy is not listed on the MIIT release.

The NT 2.0 platform offers vastly improved ADAS powered by four Nvidia DRIVE Orin silicons with a combined performance of over 1,000 TOPS which is 100 times more than the current NT 1.0 platform offers. There will be a magnitude of improvement when it comes to raw data processing and we may get a step closer to true autonomous driving.

The official unveiling is only 10 days away and we will be watching all the developments closely and keep you - as usual - posted and well informed.
