Mercedes' EQG does the Tank turn on video

Ivan, 23 May 2022

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class's fully-electric counterpart is coming in 2024 and if there is any doubt that it will live up to the high expectations of the ongoing model, we can dispel it right now. The Mercedes EQG will have four electric motors - one for each tire - and will be able to perform the famous 'Tank Turn' maneuver, where the car can rotate 360-degrees on its own axis.

Mercedes showcased the move in a presentation, which included the snipped of the EQG and the move. The Tank Turn is achieved when the tires on one side of the car rotate in the opposite direction of the ones on the other.

Rivian teased that its R1T can do the Tank Turn way back in 2019, but the actual feature isn't offered on Rivian cars at the moment and is delayed until further notice. Tank Turns aren't easy, yo!

Back to the Mercedes EQG - it will come with an independent front suspension and a rigid rear axle. The car is expected to feature a longer-range Silicon Anode battery, a technology promising as much as a 40% increase in energy density with more than 800Wh/l at the cell level. That's twice the energy density of the 1,000km range EQXX concept car.
