27 January 2023
Toyota is performing the biggest turn about in the history of the automotive industry. After dismissing electric cars for years, the company is throwing everything it has to catch up to the rest of the world.

what a biased article, the author clearly take this news to write something about blaming toyota for not adopting EV as fast as other manufacturers

IMHO, except for the bZ4X, Toyota is doing quite alright when it comes to electrifying their line-up.
But there is a hard push for EVs by some manufacturers and unreasonable push by politics and some media.
Toyota made a really sound transition strategy, which they perfected. Sadly, not a lot of other manufacturers joined in on the effort, and now are trying to skip hybrids and go full EV they often design poorly and overprice.
Vehicles like Tesla Model 3 LR, Toyota Prius PHV, Honda Civic Hybrid, Dacia Spring make sense to me, SUV EVs that consume 35 kWh/100 km when you push accelerator just a tad more don't make sense to me at all. Why bother with EVs while throwing away efficiency?

I wouldn't paint Akio leaving his post so grim, he made a lot for this company, and if he feels transitions to EVs and possibly higher segment of quality and price is better managed by Lexus management, he most likely knows what he's doing.

I am not really a Toyota fan in general, but when it comes to their goals and management, I find it really hard to find flaws.
