Japanese, our Slovakian or US roads differs a lot. Same goes for africa or countries with low or bad Economy such as Chille, Argentina, most african countries north Korea etc.
Every little thing can make a huge difference in your travels.

but if those the always complaining people are challenged to do better, usually, they can not

the engineering is massive complex integrated things, just to make any car to go extra miles, the car needs
- lighter
- less drag, this is hard, the earth surface is uneven, the road constructions follows earth surface with not the same materials every section, winds are 3 dimensions directional
- tyres design and construction
- weight of fuel and batteries
- motor high speed movement
- passengers and cargo weight and movement
- electricity usages
- driving environment
ahhhh ... so many things

suffice to say ... be grateful and pay respect to those engineer and manufacturer
