Economic case of buying an electric car is really tough at the moment but the raising fuel costs are making the case stronger. Will we see fuel at €3 or even €4? Most likely at some point. Renewable electricity sector is growing and in couple of years the balance will be shifted. Plus now with new proposals of banning ICE cars from 2035 it looks like we don't have much choice. It'll take years for this shift to complete, there is no decent used electric car market yet but in 3 or 4 more years the choice will be much better and that will change the entire market. New cars will be only getting more and more expensive, used cars will be more expensive as well. Buying a fossil fueled car now is a dead end with high possibility of not being able to sell it in few years...

MaxMcDee, 26 May 2022It may be in decline Greg but from 2035 there will be no more ICE new vehicles sold. Decline i... moreI hear you but I think sales will continue to decline mainly because of inflation, price of general EV that are more than double than ICE, Electricty price that are also spiking (Not like Gaz and Petrole, because of RU/UKR) therefore the gain that was coming from the difference fuel/EV recharge price is kinda non existant. Add to that a whole set of taxes instead of incentives and people that are struggling couldn't pay much more, hence less general vehicule since it would be reserved for a certain wealth class. With a coming carbon tax as planned on the EU level (it gain more and more voices, but importing from China, that will pay these carbon taxes for example, will going back after the final customer, hence EU people that will again see a price hike/inflation and so on), that's why I choose a GPL car a few month back. Price per liter for Essence, Diesel, GPL : 2.30 - 2.15 - 0.72. Add that Diesel is around 5 liter per 100 km, Essence is 6-7 liter and GPL is 7-8. Given the price of electricity RN, I'm driving at electricty price on a GPL car, paid less than 3 times an EV (brand new!). I'm planning just to keep it 3 year top to see when all this will be but as a personnal matter; when you see how much renovation ($$$) you have to make for 'climate change' (and justified), that's some money that could've gone into an EV, but people have to choose and don't have money for all. Inflation will not help getting credit too for a much larger crowd.
Sorry I shifted a lot haha. I just think that in Europe, until 2026-2027 there will be less and less car, then possibily cheaper car and people that will have (a little bit of) money again :)

Greg, 26 May 2022I'm not so sure, the EU market si kinda ... full, and in decline in sales since 2 year al... moreIt may be in decline Greg but from 2035 there will be no more ICE new vehicles sold. Decline is relevant to timescale - sure the numbers dropped if you compare 2020 to 2019 (11.9m v 15.8m cars sold) but it is still huge market compared to 1993 where "only" 11.8m cars were . Still - the worst case scenario with the market declining for next 13 years, the automakers will need to manufacture at least 10 million EVs for Europe alone. I'm sure Stellantis will have a dedicated Europe based battery plant by then.

G26, 26 May 2022Stellantis should focus on European market since its is biggest client. Why bother doing it... moreThey need capacity for batteries, to get the sales anywhere near the projections they need batteries and they need them fast. Battery supply is becoming a strategic problem for all automakers and having own supplies is the only way to secure the future of the company.

Why bother doing it in USA and didnt sell well there?!
This will fail and lean to a price increase to pay costs of the same fail.
