Imagine leaving your car exposed directly to the hot summer Sun. Other than internal materials being corrupted and the paint faint, the heat inside this car would be unbearable when you enter.

I certainly want to see solar roof on my next car, I was very tempted by Prius PHV with solar, but it looses blind spot monitoring, front beepers, better audio etc. ... so there was a trade off. It's heavy, it needs a converter, possibly its own buffer battery etc.

Not really want to burst a bubble, but a car sitting whole day on a sun would charge probably less than 20 km of range.
Where solar roof shines ... pun intended ... is it pretty much negates consumption of AC and PCs inside a car.
Toyota made a really nice Prius solar concept, and its range gain was really nice, but not enough for anything more than city driving ... and Prius is insanely efficient, compared to general EV.
