Tesla tries to drum up demand with the return of referral program

Tesla is trying to revitalise its slumping sales by bringing back its referral program. The revamped program offers benefits for both new buyers and existing Tesla owners - the clearest sign yet of a renewed focus on customer engagement and driving demand for its electric vehicles.

Under the resurrected referral program, new Tesla buyers using a referral code will receive a substantial $1,000 discount on their purchase. This incentive applies across the entire Tesla lineup, including the Model Y, Model 3, Model X, and Model S. It's a tempting offer that could sway potential customers considering an electric vehicle purchase.

Meanwhile, Tesla owners referring friends or family will pocket $500 credit for each successful referral, with a maximum of 10 referrals per year. That's potentially an annual windfall of up to $5,000. These credits can be applied toward a range of Tesla products and services, including vehicle purchases, Supercharging, accessories, and even service appointments.

The refreshed referral program addresses some of the criticisms leveled at the previous iterations. Rewards were often limited to specific items or services, making them less appealing to many Tesla owners. The new system's flexibility allows referrers to use their credits in ways that best suit their needs, whether that's offsetting the cost of a new Tesla or simply enjoying a few extra Supercharging sessions.

Tesla is offering an extra incentive for those who jump on board the referral program early. Referrers will also be entered into a raffle for invitations to upcoming Tesla events, potentially including the highly anticipated Robotaxi unveiling. It's a clever strategy that combines the lure of exclusive access with the more tangible financial benefits of the referral program.

Tesla tries to drum up demand with the return of referral program

Clearly, Tesla is trying to hold on to its market dominance in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape. By leveraging its existing customer base and fostering a sense of community, Tesla wants to accelerate the adoption of its EVs and solidify its position as a leader in sustainable transportation.

The new Tesla referral program is currently active in the Tesla App version 4.36.1 and appears to be available only for users in the US for now. Given its potential impact, it wouldn't be surprising to see it expand to other markets in the near future.
