XPeng's futuristic P7 spotted on the street in China

One of the latest electric vehicles that captured the attention of enthusiasts and potential buyers alike is the all-new XPeng P7. One of the first units was just spotted on the streets of China, giving us our best look yet at this sleek sedan-coupe.

One of the clever features of the new P7 is its use of turquoise "smart driving" lights. These lights, located on the side mirrors and above the rear license plate, illuminate when the car is in autonomous mode.

While XPeng is not the first to use this color – Mercedes-Benz has also been testing turquoise lights for its autonomous vehicles – we can see a growing trend towards standardized visual indicators for self-driving cars. The goal is to increase safety and transparency, ensuring that everyone on the road understands who is actually driving a vehicle.

Apart from its innovative lighting, the XPeng P7 has a design that is definitely different. With a nearly 5-meter-long body, it has a commanding presence on the road. The design is a mix of flat surfaces, sculpted fenders, and streamlined shapes, creating a "cyberpunk" aesthetic. Thin LED light strips at the front, hidden headlights, and signature taillights further enhance its modern look.

Optional features like an active rear spoiler, carbon fiber elements, and dramatic scissor doors add to its sporty appeal. The P7's dimensions (197.5 inches/77.6 inches/56.2 inches with a 118.4 inches wheelbase) place it in the large sedan category, making it a direct competitor to established players like the BMW i5 and Mercedes EQE.

The new P7 will offer a range of powertrain options - the entry-level model has a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 270 kW (363 hp), paired with an LFP battery. A long-range variant uses the same motor but with a ternary NMC battery pack for extended range.

For maximum performance, the 4WD version adds a front-mounted motor for a combined output of 437 kW (586 hp). This powerful setup is complemented by a ternary NMC battery and large Brembo brake calipers. All versions of the P7 have a top speed of 143 mph.

The interior of the P7 has not yet been officially revealed, but it is expected to follow a minimalist design philosophy. Spy shots suggest a cabin with a compact steering wheel, a narrow instrument display, and a large, floating central touchscreen. A co-pilot display may also be included, providing entertainment and information for the front passenger.

The new XPeng P7 is expected to launch in the third quarter of 2025, with a price tag of around RMB 300,000 (approximately $41,650). The company has been ramping up production, with hundreds of the first P7 vehicles already being stocked up for fast deliveries.
