BMW iX5 Long wheelbase version debuts as a Chinese exclusive
BMW unveiled the China-exclusive iX5 Long Wheelbase, a stretched version of its all-electric SUV designed specifically for local buyers. The longer wheelbase is intended to improve rear-seat comfort and legroom, reflecting strong demand for chauffeur-friendly luxury SUVs in China.
The iX5 LWB has exactly 130mm more wheelbase than the regular model. The exact wheelbase is 3,165mm.
Unlike the global iX5 revealed in June, the Long Wheelbase model doesn't introduce new powertrain or battery technology. Instead, it builds on the existing vehicle with market-specific digital features and localized connected services, while being produced in China for the Chinese market.
So, if unchanged and wheelbase aside, the iX5 uses BMW's sixth-gen eDrive tech with an 800V architecture. It has a CLTC claimed range of over 620 miles from its 141 kWh battery pack. It features BMW's latest "Heart of Joy" central computing platform and a China-specific "Address-to-Address" assisted driving system developed in partnership with Momenta.
The EV will be available in China in 2027.
