Next-gen CarPlay spotted in regulatory filing with Audi's logo
Apple introduced its next-generation CarPlay some time ago and showcased its development during this year's WWDC. Some manufacturers, such as Porsche and Aston Martin, have already laid the groundwork for adopting the new system.
The latest generation of CarPlay isn't fully out yet, but the latest regulatory filing showcasing Audi's logo and a rough schematic of some of the features suggests that it will be soon.
The patent filing has been sent to the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office). The illustrations show Audi's logo and rough schematics of the instrument cluster and other features, such as navigation.
Unfortunately, the leak doesn't contain much information, and the features are not described in detail. However, it clearly indicates that Audi is on board with Apple's new infotainment system, and we might see it run on Audi models next year.
The biggest improvement in the new CarPlay system is that it extends its reach to all car systems instead of being confined only on the entertainment screen. It will allow you to customize almost everything you see on the vehicle's displays, including the instrument cluster. Apple aims to unify the whole experience inside the cabin.
