Nissan unveils 429 hp Ariya Nismo

Nissan has taken the wraps off the Ariya Nismo at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024. Set to hit the roads this spring, the crossover SUV is Nissan's most powerful EV model yet.

Building upon the foundation of the Ariya e-4ORCE, the Ariya Nismo boasts a body kit with aggressive skirts painted in the tuning company's signature black and red colors.

The electric motors have seen their output boosted by 10% compared to their “civilian” counterparts. This, combined with special acceleration tuning and the exclusive Nismo driving mode, promises a more exciting driving experience.

At times when many EV manufacturers try to create fake engine sounds (Abarth and Hyundai spring to mind), the sound produced by the Ariya Nismo is thankfully designed to evoke the image of Formula E electric racing.

The extra exterior panels claim to improve the Ariya Nismo's aerodynamic performance. We doubt the impact is significant, but we'll take Nissan's word for it.

Nismo also spiced up the cabin with Nismo-branded seats, red accents on the center console and dashboard, red contrast stitching, and a small Nismo logo on the dashboard.

Interestingly, Nissan offers two versions of the Ariya Nismo in Japan. The base Nismo B6 e-4ORCE comes equipped with a 66 kWh battery pack, delivering 362 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque through its two electric motors. That’s nearly 30 hp more than the standard Ariya e-4ORCE with the same 66 kWh battery pack.

The Nismo B9 e-4ORCE is the interesting one, featuring a 91 kWh battery, 429 horsepower, and 442 lb-ft of torque. That’s 40 hp more than the already nippy non-Nismo Ariya with the same battery pack and interestingly, the torque figure remains unchanged.

While Nissan has remained tight-lipped about the acceleration times of the Ariya Nismo it has claimed it boasts enhanced cornering performance.

It is still a 5-year-old EV SUV, just with a nice paint job.
